About The Event

In the first part of this three hour session, award-winning comedy writer David Quantick (Veep, The Thick Of It, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane Austen?) takes you through the mechanics of writing comedy, from one-liner gags to full-length scripts.  And in the second part, with David’s assistance, you will write some.

The Book Festival is offering a free bursary place to any local resident, who wishes to attend this workshop, but is struggling financially. To apply for this place, please email info@hastingsbookfestival.org

More about David:

In addition to writing the funny stuff, David  is also a novelist, a critic, and has worked as a journalist and screenwriter. He has numerous writing credits  including The Day Today, Harry Hill's TV Burp and  Brass Eye - but most notably he won his Emmy Award for 'Veep' in 2015.

He has also contributed to Spitting Image, The Thick of It, and helped write material for the comedian Rob Brydon.

He has written several novels, various non-fiction books, including one on The Clash, and two writing manuals : How To Write Everything, then How to Be a Writer: Conversations With Writers About Writing
